Chasing Joy: How Tessa Treadway keeps her crew close while letting them run wild
Posted January 06, 2026
For Tessa Treadway, the mountains are more than just a backdrop; they are a legacy. As a professional skier and mother to three super active, talented, and fast boys, Kasper (12), Raffi (9), and Malto (7), the slopes are where her family connects, heals, and thrives. “They all love to ski, as I do,” Tessa says. “And all three are really talented skiers, and fast.”
But adventure parenting comes with an invisible weight. In the mountain community, it is the mental and physical juggle of gear, snacks, and safety. For Tessa, that responsibility also carries the memory of loss; her husband, legendary skier Dave Treadway, passed away in a skiing accident in 2019.
Today, as she raises her three sons to live “brave, wild, and free,” Tessa has found a new partner in safety: skiKrumb.
Facing the Dangers of Mountain Life
Tessa describes the mountains as “the most amazing playground,” but she’s also the first to admit they can be a dangerous one.” I have lots of trauma in the mountains, actually,” she shares.
When her oldest is off with friends or her younger boys head in different directions, whether skiing with her or during group lessons, that trauma can easily turn into anxiety. “It’s just me. I can’t be everywhere at once,” she explains. “To keep eyes on the kids and make sure that everybody’s safe… I’ve tried lots of different things to try and keep track of the kids on the mountains that have not been successful.” Before skiKrumb, keeping eyes on three high-speed skiers was a constant battle of nerves. Now, it’s a matter of a quick glance.

Real-Time Connection, Real-Time Peace
On a recent deep powder day, the kind of day that usually spikes a parent’s heart rate, Tessa noticed a shift.
“Normally, that would make me kind of anxious… but today, I was totally able to manage all of those worries. Anytime I was feeling anxious, I could just pull out my phone, have a quick look and see where they were, put my phone away, and go and ski and have fun.”
Whether the boys are in lessons or exploring the glades, skiKrumb provides live GPS tracking that allows Tessa to stay present in her own skiing, knowing exactly where her crew is located at all times.
Freedom for the Next Generation

Tessa’s goal has always been to foster her sons’ natural abilities and sense of adventure. By using skiKrumb, she isn’t just watching them; she’s giving them the freedom to explore while she manages the safety boundaries and her own personal anxiety. “When I heard about skiKrumb, I was really excited to try it out and see if it would work,” she says. “And today was day one trying it, and I have to say I’m really excited about it.”
After just one day, Tessa’s experience in her words was, “very freeing… really cool.”
We are honored to have Tessa Treadway as a skiKrumb Ambassador, helping her family and yours chase the sweet moments of the mountain with a little less weight on your shoulders.
